In class, we talked about the problems that students have with mental health and how it affects them. Our campus provides many methods of relieving the stress that is affecting our mental health such as CAPS, Wolverine Wellness, and many other programs. Unfortunately, students are not taking advantage of these resources for multiple reasons.
Because some students are not aware of the dangers of leaving their mental health unchecked, it may mean that our campus should be putting forth more effort in spreading the knowledge of how to be mentally healthy. In addition, it is an inconvenience for many students to access these resources due to the location. For example, CAPS is restricted to Michigan Union and it may take more motivation for a student to walk there especially if they live further away.
Although the methods that the school uses to aid in relieving the stress that students have may be affective, there should definitely be efforts made to inform students of the benefits of using these resources as well as reminding them of the consequences of leaving their mental health unchecked. This is especially true because some students do not want to waste their time to check up on their mental health due to academics, extracurricular activities, and other life events.
